In 1973 Jim Pomeroy became the first American to win a European grand prix riding a red Bultaco for the factory. In honor of the great achievement, Bultaco created this bike in 1974 and called it the “Pomeroy replica,” it sold well, but unfortunately, they were tough to keep running and eventually Bultaco fell as a result of stiff competition from Japanese and German manufacturers.
Jim Pomeroy rode for several factories including Honda. He is featured in many photos in the museum riding his #57 Bultaco. Jim unfortunately died in 2009 in a jeep accident while off-roading near his home in northern California. He was a real ambassador to the sport and always had a smile on his face.
