In 1973 Honda saw the need for smaller yet agile mini bikes. If anything, these little work horses would give the youngsters of the period, the feel of the real race bike and excellent handling characteristics. A feeling they would expect as they bought larger displacement bikes from Honda when they got older and taller. It was a brilliant strategy, one that KTM uses today with their small race bikes.
These Hondas were virtually indestructible. My son Brad had one for 10 years and it simply never broke down. The XR 75s were clearly miles ahead of any other bike of the period with the exception of the Steen’s SS series which had a 100 CC Hodaka powerplant.
