Monarks arrived in the USA in 1971 with stainless steel fenders, boasting factory motor modifications that improved performance over the standard Sachs motorcycles. They handled as well as any 125 CC bike on the market at the time, but were expensive when compared to the competition. In 1972, Monarks came with yellow steel fenders and were ridden locally by an up and coming intermediate racer by the name of Marty Smith. As Marty began winning races, the Honda racing team took notice. Knowing of their impending release of the 1974 125 CC Elsinore, Honda elected to acquire Marty for their team from the Monark Factory. Marty immediately rode the newly developed Elsinore to a string of local and national victories. I rode against Marty in the 1974 Super Bowl of Motocross 125 CC Class, he was a rocket and won pulling away from riders like Mike Bell, myself and the rest of the field. This is one of the most exact examples in existence and includes original cables, tires, fenders and handle bars.
